A warm, immune-supporting drink made from simple kitchen scraps
When cold and flu season hits, sometimes the best remedies are the ones made right in your own kitchen. This soothing pineapple ginger lime drink is a favorite in our home because it uses ingredients you may normally throw away — the pineapple rind and core — and turns them into a comforting, nourishing brew.
This drink is warm, slightly sweet, gently spicy, and packed with natural compounds that support the body when you’re feeling run down.
It’s simple, affordable, and made with real food.
Why These Ingredients Help
Pineapple Rind & CoreOften discarded, these parts of the pineapple are rich in bromelain, an enzyme known to support the immune system, reduce inflammation, and help break up mucus.
GingerA powerful natural anti-inflammatory that helps soothe sore throats, reduce congestion, and warm the body.
LimeHigh in vitamin C and antioxidants to support immune function and help the body fight off illness.
Honey (added at the end)Naturally antimicrobial and soothing to the throat. Adding it after straining preserves its beneficial properties.
Ingredients
4 cups water
Rind and core of 1 pineapple (washed well) you can add blended pineapple if you want.
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
1 lime, cut in half
1–2 tablespoons honey (added after straining)
Instructions
Add water, pineapple rind and core, grated ginger, and lime halves to a pot.
Bring to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce slightly and allow to simmer for 10–15 minutes.
Remove from heat and strain into mugs or a heat-safe pitcher. (I prefer mason jars)
Stir in honey just before serving.
Sip warm and breathe in the steam.
Tips
Drink while warm for the best soothing effect.
You can store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat gently.
This is a great way to reduce food waste while supporting your health.
A Simple Remedy from the Kitchen
This drink isn’t medicine — it’s nourishment. It’s the kind of old-fashioned kitchen remedy that comforts, hydrates, and supports your body naturally when you need it most.
Keep this recipe handy during the winter months, and the next time you cut a pineapple, save the scraps. Your future self will thank you.
Stay warm, stay nourished, and take care of yourself.
